Battles Left and Right

No, I’m not a soldier and I am not going to talk about the battles that are going on between the government and the MILF or that has been going on in Syria. And no, I am not referring to a line in Gary V’s song, The Warrior is a Child. I equate this kind of battle to those that people like you and me encounter in our lives. These were unseen battles which are harder to fight.

Life is wonderful but there are times when it’s complicated. Okay, to say that life is sometimes complicated is an understatement. There are challenges that are not that easy to overcome. Like in an actual battle, these challenges could drag on for years and years with you trying to fight it and overcome it but victory seems to be elusive. What could be so overwhelming is that some battles are faced not by a battalion of soldiers but only by one. That only soldier goes at the forefront and gets all the bullets. There’s not even one person to watch her back. She calls for help but no one answers. So, she keeps on standing to protect what she holds dear. She may be scarred from all the fighting but she is still standing. “What can’t kill you only makes you stronger” said that famous philosopher. There is truth in that but an ongoing and dragging battle could wear you down.

2 Chronicles 20:15 declares, “This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” This verse is so powerful if only we read and meditate on it every time we are at war. There is really nothing we can do to be triumphant in battles that life throws at us; nothing that we can do on our own. It is better that we lift up everything to Him. Praying and reading the Bible does a lot to the weary soul. It is where you find encouragement and assurance of God’s faithfulness and unfailing love. He delivers. He reigns.
